African women bear an unacceptably huge burden of disease and death, especially in our reproductive years. Between puberty and menopause, accurate information and access to women's health services is severely lacking for many of the 364 million women of reproductive age.
Misinformation and inappropriate treatment lead to a burden of late diagnosis, physical and psychological health complications and even death.
What is Massira?
A leading female centered support community
Increasing women’s access to credible health information and related services (sexual, reproductive and mental health) through a safe community that fosters open dialogue and is committed to educating, connecting and empowering women to improve health outcomes in Africa.
Massira means journey, march or procession. Its meaning as a given name is noble or doing good deeds. Our vision and the impact we hope to have via our work at Massira are reflected in the name. We envisage a world where African women can access health information and services regardless of their economic status, advocate for their health, and make confident health decisions as we accompany one another on a journey of self-discovery and health proactivity.
